Simon's Titanic Page!

Welcome to my Titanic page. This page is devoted to the greatest maritime disaster of all time. On the 14th of April, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceburg off the coast of Newfoundland, America. At 2.20am on Monday 15th of April 1912 the Titanic slipped under the waves of the North Atlantic, taking with her nearly 1500 souls. As the ship went down the band played, while the people trapped on board sang the hymn 'Nearer my God to thee', while the lights burned, only being extinguished a few seconds before she disappeared. I recently visited the Titanic exhibition in Greenwich, and was surprised to see all the fragile things that had survived on the bottom of the Atlantic. I find this subject fascinating. I collect original Titanic postcards. I would be grateful if anyone with any for sale gets in touch with me. I'm also after the early Titanic book (e.g.Beesley, Lightoller) and any original Titanic related memorabilia.

Hymn sung as the Titanic went down.

Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee! E'en though it be a cross That raiseth me, Still all my song shall be: 'Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!'

Though, like the wanderer, The sun gone down, Darkness be over me, My rest a stone, Yet in my dreams I'd be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!

There let the way appear Steps unto heaven- All that thou sendest me In mercy given- Angels to beckon me Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!

Then, with my waking thoughts Bright with thy praise, Out of my stony griefs Bethel I'll raise; So by my woes to be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!

Or if on joyful wing Cleaving the sky, Sun, moon, and stars forgot, Upwards I fly, Still all my song shall be: 'Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!'
